- Have a diverse range of talented people from all kinds of backgrounds.
- Senior salaries are excellent.
DISADVANTAGES
- Junior salaries are terrible.
- Production is often hindered by micro-management.
- Can sometimes feel like a factory.
- Hard to stand out/difficult to progress
SMALL COMPANIES
ADVANTAGES
- Everyone knows each other – Makes communication a lot easier.
- You will have more responsibility, and with that comes power.
- Easier to get noticed, and easier to progress.
- Junior salaries are generally higher.
- They can get by on less than AAA companies.
DISADVANTAGES
- Senior salaries pale in comparison to AAA.
- You’re project most likely won’t be well known
- Hard to ignore people you don’t like.
Things to consider
- There’s nothing wrong with choosing a small company.
- There’s nothing wrong with choosing a big company.
- Specialize your portfolio, but don’t make yourself unemployable by over-specializing.
- The more specialized a role, the harder it is to get a job, and the stiffer the competition will be.
- Everyone knows each other.
- Relocation will occur.
- Don’t burn yourself out.
- Make friends, and try not to let the stress get to you.
- You will end up getting fired/laid off from at least one of your jobs.
